Open source is terug bij de EU

De nieuwe Europese Commissie (EC) geeft politieke steun aan open source. Eind maart 2015 publiceerde de EC een bijgewerkte open source-strategie om het gebruik van dit type software in de Europese instituten aan te moedigen. De drie zwaartepunten zijn: gelijke kansen voor open source bij aanbestedingen, het bijdragen aan open source-projecten en het vrijgeven van door de EU ontwikkelde software. Aanpassing van het beleid was in december 2014 al aangekondigd.

Dat zegt Jacques Wallage, burgemeester van Groningen, op 15 november in Amsterdam bij een bijeenkomst over het inzetten van internet voor politiek bestuur. De overheid zit vast in belangen en tradities, die slechts af en toe verbindingen met de buitenwereld wil.
